John E. Murray
JOHN E. MURRAY has represented employers for more than 15 years. He has represented employers in cases alleging harassment, employment discrimination, FMLA violations, wage and hour violations, labor, and benefit cases in state and federal courts, administrative agencies, arbitrations and proceedings before the NLRB. Mr. Murray's experience also includes Equal Pay violations, wrongful denial of benefits, breach of stop-loss contracts, subrogation claims on behalf of self-insured plans, unfair labor practice charges, non-compete agreements, invasion of privacy, and wrongful discharge. Mr. Murray helps clients avoid litigation whenever possible. He has helped employers develop policies, which minimize the risk of litigation. He has counseled employers on reasonable accommodations, FMLA leave, drug testing, harassment investigations, hire/discipline/discharge decisions, workplace privacy, non-compete agreements, and investigations of internal and external employee misconduct. He also has counseled clients engaged in union organizing or decertification campaigns. Mr. Murray has developed several training programs for employers. These programs have addressed harassment, workplace investigations, performance feedback, supervisor communications, and union avoidance. Mr. Murray has worked with federal contractors and sub-contractors to draft and revise affirmative action plans. He has represented clients in audits by the OFCCP and by the Wage & Hour Divisions of the federal and state Departments of Labor. Mr. Murray is a frequent lecturer on a wide range of HR Law topics. He has spoken at seminars hosted by the Wisconsin Safety Council and the Council on Employment Management. His presentations have included Effective Performance Reviews; Documentation of Discipline and Discharge Decisions; Managing Ill, Injured and Disabled Employees; and Workplace Investigations. Mr. Murray has been recognized as a lifetime member of Strathmore's Who's Who and was the 2007-08 Co-Chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Milwaukee Bar Association. Mr. Murray is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He also is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois (trial bar), the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits. Mr. Murray received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from St. John's University. He graduated with high distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law.
